Zombie Shakespeare

SSHAKES-1084-Zombie-Web-2016

SSC is pleased to announce our Touring show for the 2016-17 Season will be Zombie Shakespeare by Eden Rush. This highly improvisational romp begins when Cinderella, Snow White, Goldilocks, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty pry open Shakespeare’s coffin because they want different stories (as does Captain Hook). The undead Shakespeare recasts them in scenes from his plays, so there are excerpts from Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, and three scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream because Goldilocks can’t decide who she wants to be.

The play has some history with SSC, as it was performed during the first incarnation of Southern Shakespeare in the late 1990s. The author, Eden Rush, became a part of the theater scene in Tallahassee, and though she recently passed away, her play lives on. In fact, at least two members of Southern Shakespeare company now were in the original production as children, and Zombie was performed by the students of SAIL high school a couple of years ago.
