Shakespeare for the Classroom

Our mission is entertainment that educates and education that entertains. Southern Shakespeare is proud to offer classroom visits, artist residencies, and performances that incite student interest in history, language, and performance relevant to Shakespeare’s times, themes, and work.

Let us partner with your school, classroom, or community center to make it happen! Scroll down to learn more about these offerings and more, and let’s be in touch about accomplishing your learning goals together.

Don’t forget to also peruse our packages of pre-recorded performances and curriculum–these offer maximal flexibility for educators to use SSC’s past work for current curriculum!

Complete Works… (Abridged)

Book YOUR FEBRUARY TOURING SHOW

Live theatre creates powerful, memorable learning experiences.

We love touring to classrooms and arranging field trips to see our shows, and are pleased to offer performances of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) in February of 2024.

In this broad introduction to Shakespeare’s work, three actors perform all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in 97 minutes: hilarity ensues!

Shakespeare Man

Devised and performed by educator Phil Croton, our Shakespeare Man program brings Shakespeare to life,  allowing students to meet and chat with the Bard himself!

Shakespeare Man is available for In-Person or Virtual Workshops year-round, customized to any of Shakespeare’s works. To preview a talk with the Bard, check out our 2020 video series on YouTube.

Shakespeare Man classroom visits are often free for Leon County Schools and reasonably priced for other venues.

My seventh and eighth graders loved [Shakespeare Man’s] visit! He is so engaging and it was so much fun!

As always [Shakespeare Man] did a remarkable job peaking my students’ minds about Shakespeare and his accomplishments. The outfit is a bonus as well as the accent. It is a wonderful introduction into MacBeth.

THE SONNET MAN

Devon Glover, AKA The Sonnet Man, sets Shakespeare’s love sonnets to Hip Hop beats to both entertain and educate. The Sonnet Man has performed at regional theatres and festivals across the United States and internationally! Check out a past performance on YouTube.

A classroom visit from The Sonnet Man introduces a classical form in an exciting way, encourages literacy and creative thinking, and raises student confidence with the classics.

Residencies are often offered at no cost to Leon County Schools and are reasonably priced for other venues.
