Assistant Carpenters for the 2024 Shakespeare in the Park Festival ($300 Stipend)
The Southern Shakespeare Company, a professional nonprofit theatre company, seeks two Assistant Carpenters to support the Festival Carpenter Mike Mock in the construction of the set for the 2024 Festival mainstage, Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, designed by Jack Jammer, as well as any additional platforms and pieces needed to support the showcase of junior acting troupe The Bardlings and other community-based performance groups.
Construction will take place at Southern Shakespeare Company’s workshop and storage space at 136 Progress Drive primarily on Fridays-Sundays. (Availability for Mondays-Thursdays in March is also welcome and helpful but not required.) The set will be loaded and transported to the Adderley Amphitheater stage at Cascades Park.
Ideal candidates will have some set design and/or construction experience and good availability for the following build dates:
- Saturday – Sunday, March 9-10, 9 AM – 5 PM: Construction
- Friday – Sunday, March 15-17, 9 AM – 5 PM: Construction
- Friday – Saturday, May 3-4, 2-6 PM: Load-in
- Monday, May 13, 8 AM – 2 PM: Load-out
Assistant Carpenters will learn from Mike Mock about the techniques and practices used to construct and transport a large-scale outdoor production set.
