The Bards Workshop Leaders
Calling All Theatre Artists!
Southern Shakespeare Company is seeking dynamic Workshop Leaders to work with The Bards, our youth performance ensemble, during regular rehearsals from September 2026 through February 2027.
The Bards meet twice each week to develop their skills as performers, storytellers, collaborators, and theatre-makers.
Throughout the season, students have the opportunity to learn from experienced theatre professionals representing a wide range of artistic disciplines.
We are currently seeking teaching artists with experience in areas such as foley sound effects, juggling and other specialty performance skills, special effects makeup, technical theater, vocal performance and storytelling, and other specialized theatrical disciplines that inspire and challenge young artists!
The Bards will present showcase performances in December and February, and we are looking for artists who are passionate about sharing their expertise while helping cultivate the next generation of theatre artists.
If you have experience working with young performers and would enjoy leading an engaging workshop in your area of expertise, we would love to hear from you.
A stipend of $125 is provided for each workshop presented.

Movement, Dance and Choreography Teaching Artist
The Movement and Dance Choreographer supports the artistic and educational mission of the Bards, a program of the Southern Shakespeare Company. Working in a jobshare model, this role brings specialized expertise in Movement and Dance, to twiceweekly ensemble sessions. This position reports to the Director of The Bards and collaborates with the Education Director of the Southern Shakespeare Company.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Instruction and Artistic Support – Visits the twiceweekly ensemble sessions with our Directors to provide specialized
instruction in Movement and Dance (ensemble and individual dancing, modern and classical, ballroom to jive! )
– Lead warmups, skillbuilding exercises, and smallgroup coaching as assigned.
– Support the Directors in cultivating a positive, inclusive, and growthoriented learning environment.
2. Showcase and Rehearsal Support
– Assist the Directors in preparing students for the culminating showcase.
– Provide coaching on studentselected material within your specialty.
– Offer creative input on staging, transitions, and ensemble moments as requested.
– Attend designated rehearsals leading up to the showcase.
3. Collaboration and Communication
– Communicate with the Directors regarding lesson planning, student progress, and rehearsal needs.
– Coordinate visiting workshop leaders to ensure continuity across sessions.
– Maintain professionalism and alignment with the mission and values of the Southern Shakespeare Company.
– Support a consistent, unified instructional approach across all Teaching Artists.
4. Student Support and Classroom Culture
– Model professionalism, creativity, and ensemble values.
– Provide individualized feedback and encouragement to students.
– Help maintain a safe, respectful, and collaborative classroom environment.
– Assist with attendance, transitions, and general classroom management as needed.
Qualifications and Strengths
– Demonstrated experience in theatre education, youth arts instruction, or professional performance.
– Ability to collaborate within a teamteaching model.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with young performers.
– Commitment to inclusive, studentcentered arts education.
– Reliability and flexibility within a rotating teaching schedule.
Time Commitment and Structure
The Bards meet bi-weekly with two hour sessions led by the Directors. Visiting Theatre Artist would be scheduled in advance according to availability and the agreed amount of time that they are required and have requested for. The Choreographer would be expected to run at least 8 dance rehearsals for which the stipend would be $1000 It is anticipated that the Choreographer may be offered further sessions and would be renumerated on a pro rata basis of $125 per session,
Overall Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Director will help enrich The Bards by bringing diverse artistic expertise and collaborative energy to the program. Through a sharedteaching model, they help students grow as performers, ensemble members, and young artists while supporting the Director’s vision and the Southern Shakespeare Company’s educational mission.

Marketing & Communications Intern
Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Intern supports programming by creating content, managing social media campaigns, drafting press releases, and analyzing performance data. This role provides hands-on experience in public relations, digital marketing, and event coordination under the guidance of the Southern Shakespeare Company Communications Director.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Draft and edit copy for social media posts, newsletters, and short-form video collateral.
- Social Media Management: Assist in building content calendars, producing graphics, publishing updates, and tracking engagement metrics.
- Public Relations: Help draft press releases, media advisories, and research media lists or competitor strategies.
- Event Support: Assist with the planning, logistics, and promotion of programs or virtual events.
- Administrative Tasks: Update customer relationship management (CRM) databases, format presentations, and organize multimedia files.
Position Requirements
- Schedule: Flexible hours with a minimum of 5 hours per week and a maximum of 8 hours per week
- Occasional evening and weekend availability for events and performances
- Hybrid structure with a combination of remote work and in-person meetings/events in Tallahassee
- Reliable transportation for local travel (occasional site visits or events)
- Must be able to work independently and communicate regularly with supervisor
Position Qualifications
- Interest in arts and culture, marketing, video content creation, communications, or related fields
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to engage with community-centered work

Arts Education & Impact Intern
Position Overview
The Arts Education & Impact Intern supports Southern Shakespeare Company’s education and outreach initiatives, helping to expand access to arts education across Florida and South Georgia. Working closely with the Development Director, this role contributes to the planning, coordination, and growth of programs that serve students, educators, and communities—particularly those with limited access to the arts. This position offers hands-on experience in nonprofit development, arts education, and community engagement, with a direct impact on advancing SSC’s mission of “Shakespeare for All.”
Position Duties/Responsibilities
- Track and organize program data, including schools served, student reach, counties, and Title I impact
- Assist with scheduling and logistics for education programs such as Shakespeare Man, touring productions, and residencies
- Maintain and update databases of school and community contacts across Florida and South Georgia
- Support outreach efforts to schools, homeschool groups, and community organizations, including drafting and tracking communications
- Assist in preparing educational materials, study guides, and program packets
- Support development efforts by gathering data and materials for grant proposals, sponsor materials, and reports
- Help track donor and sponsor engagement related to education initiatives
- Compile program statistics, testimonials, and photos for reporting and storytelling purposes
- Organize digital files, photos, and internal documents to support program and development needs
Position Requirements

Interns will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development, arts education programming, community engagement, and program expansion, along with mentorship and networking opportunities within the arts and nonprofit sector. Opportunities to attend SSC performances and events may also be available.
